The Archives and Heritage Committee
The Archive and Heritage Committee (AHC) is a Provincial Committee established following a resolution at Synod 2021 as a body to advise and support the Provincial Board and congregations in matters relating to the history and culture of the Moravian Church in the British Province.
The scope of the Committee’s functions are vast and include:
- To advise and support the Provincial Board and congregations with the acquisition, care, storage, preservation, management, safe keeping and promotion of historical records, artefacts and material relating to the work of the Moravian Church.
- To advise and support the Provincial Board and congregations with the care, maintenance, and promotion of the heritage of the Moravian Church in the Province, including history, historic buildings, and property.
- To assist the Provincial Board and congregations in identifying and securing funding for archives and heritage.
- To oversee research and study related to the history of the Moravian Church.
- To liaise with corresponding organisations in the ecumenical community, national archives, and the Moravian Unity.
- To support the work of the Provincial Archivist.
The Committee is made up of elected members, the Provincial Archivist, representatives of the districts, settlements, and deputies of the Provincial Board. There is also scope for the Provincial Board to co-opt experts, when needed. We would love to hear your thoughts and points of view, ideas and questions about our heritage.
The Committee met for the first time in 2022. Meetings are usually online, and occasionally in person at different locations to enrich our understanding of the Church’s unique heritage and culture.
