The Moravian Church, Royton

Spring Garden Street, Royton, Oldham, OL2 5QE

Formerly Westwood Moravian Church, Middleton Road, Oldham (1865)

The-Old-Building
The original Westwood Moravian Church was officially opened in October 1865 and just four years later was replaced by a larger and more permanent building. The history of the church, published for the church’s centenary, records that in 1881 the Lancashire District Conference asked Westwood Moravian Church to consider opening a preaching station. Nearby Royton was considered, but no station was opened.

126 years later, Royton became the new home of the congregation, following the closure and sale of the Westwood property in July 2005. The congregation moved to the former Salvation Army building in Royton, which has been renovated and turned into a modern multi-purpose building. The first service in the new building was held on 1st April 2007.
