What is a Moravian Summer Camp?

Moravian Summer Camp is a residential holiday for young people aged 10-17 who have contact with the Moravian Church. It is overseen by Joy Raynor, the paid youth and children’s worker, but the hard work is done by volunteers who are members of the Moravian Church across England and Northern Ireland.

What is happening this year?

Camp is divided into two groups by age – Juniors and Seniors – each with age appropriate activities. However the camp is together for many activities and the leadership team try to ensure that the different age groups spend time together as well as apart.

Worship and meals are always spent together and there may be games sessions and activities done together too.

Where is it happening?

This year camp is at Tollymore Activity Centre in the Tollymore Forest near Newcastle in Northern Ireland. The centre is set in woodland and will provide expert led activities. The rooms are 2 or 3 bedded rooms (there may be an option for more to share by moving beds around). Each room has an ensuite bathroom. All bedding is supplied. The holiday is fully catered by staff at the centre.

How do I get there?

Transport to the centre is the responsibility of parents BUT leaders will be on Flybe flight BE476 from Manchester at 11.55 and British Airways BA1430 flight from London Heathrow at 11.30. Leaders will be on the return flights BE477 at 13.15 to Manchester and BA1415 at 13.30 to Heathrow. The journey to and from Belfast City Airport will be organised. Flights from other airports were investigated but either leave too early in the morning, or arrive too late. If these times are not suitable for you we will endeavour to meet flights at other times. Please do not book any alternative flights without discussing it with Joy. For those in the Western District there are flights from Bristol but no leader going from there.

Meet some of the team...

Our leaders this year are, Roberta Hoey for Juniors and Phill Battelle for Seniors.

They will decide on the rest of the staff team which is then confirmed by PYCC.

Hi everyone, it’s Roberta and I’m really excited to be back leading Camp with Phill this year! I’m a Moravian from Kilwarlin in the Irish District but I am currently working and living in London. From being a camper to becoming a staff member and now a leader at camp it has been a real privilege to watch young people come together each year for a week of memories and friendships that I know will last a lifetime. It has been great to visit different parts of the Province in the last year and hope I can get to some more Churches in the coming months. I can’t wait to take Camp to Northern Ireland, we have some fantastic plans - it is going to be a new challenge and a great adventure!

Hey. My name’s Phill. Lifetime member of Ockbrook Moravian Church in Derby.

I am thrilled to have been invited to lead Senior Summer Camp for a second year after attending camp as a kid and being part of a great team for the last few years. I accepted the invitation to lead on one condition.... we all go down in church records as being the first people to take camp offshore.
