Consecration of Sr Lorraine Shorten
There was
great
excitement
at Leominster Moravian Church when we learned that our minister was to be consecrated as a Presbyter in our church. We had attended her ordination as a Deacon at our sister church in Birmingham, Hall Green United Community Church and felt very honoured that she felt that we, despite being so much smaller, could share in her special day.
Local caterers, Leslie and Cheryl of Bell's Court Cafe, were engaged to provide eats and drinks for 50 people and they did us proud with a delicious spread. Because of COVID restrictions, we could not
accommodate the much larger congregation of Hall Green, so only Blair and Lynn Kesseler came to help with a Zoom recording to send live to Hall Green so that the members there could watch, either in church or at home.
Friends of the church and representatives from Churches Together in Leominster attended and most of the Moravian ministers in the British Province attended. Only one or two were unable to travel from Ireland, although Bishop Sarah Groves was able to come to preside over the consecration itself. Sr Dilys Howard did the scripture reading and Sr Lyn Kessler presented Lorraine with a Bible on behalf of the Hall Green congregation. and Rob Milan played the organ. Sr Jane
Carter preached on Colossians 312-17. She started with her and Lorraine’s shared love of dress making and drew together threads from that into a reflection on the clothes that are required for a Minister, compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, forgiveness and patience. The order of service contained a hymn that had been specially written for Lorraine, by Rev Jan Berry from Northern College where Lorraine had trained for the ministry.
It was indeed a day to remember and we ask for God's continued blessings on
