Fetter Lane (London) and flowers
Fetter Lane Moravian Church is located in Chelsea, famous throughout the centuries, and at the end of May, the site of the Chelsea Flower Show. To mark this annual event, local businesses along the King's Road decorate their shop fronts with floral displays. Although Fetter Lane is at the far end of the King's Road, we decided to get into the spirit, thanks to the creative abilities of two of our friends, Jennifer Dunrod, floral artist, and Ian Foster, historian and Fetter Lane's groundskeeper.
Thanks to this duo, the entrance gates, which can appear forbidding, were surrounded by fresh and artificial flowers and topped by two tropical birds fixed to the iron work 'Moravian Close' arc. The plain Cross marking the location of the Chapel along the Close pathway was also draped in flowers. The display was greatly appreciated by the groups who regularly meet in our space, including the children from a local nursery for whom the Close has become their Forest School. During our open morning on that Friday, we welcomed 25 visitors, many looking for a bit of peace following the busy Flower Show and no doubt attracted by the welcoming and beautiful floral frame.
